Meet David Lewis

I was born in Weston and attended Westhaven School in Uphill.  In 1993 Weston Civic Society employed me as a driver at the start of their Recycling Scheme based at the quarry.

From 2002 I was responsible for the quarry, opening / closing, maintenance, etc.  Spending a lot of time in this peaceful habitat encouraged my interest in wildlife and photography.

A few years later I created the cafe in the main building, mostly for the tenants, the employees of the Recycling Scheme and sometimes for members of the public when they wandered in to look around.

I took a lot of photos in those days, the most important being of a fox cub born in the quarry, these photos eventually became the book "Sam The Quarry Fox"    Sam had her first set of cubs in the quarry.   She was always a wild fox, eventually living permanently in the woods but returning for food.

I am very happy to have returned to the quarry, it has been a very important place to me for the past 30 years.
