Meet Sandra Raven

Style of Art: Painting and Drawing – Mainly Figurative Art

Originally from North Norfolk, Sandra Raven has lived in Weston-super-Mare since 1976 and has been drawing and painting for most of her life.

Many years spent working in a drawing office fostered Sandra’s appreciation for precision and the art of careful draftsmanship. Drawing is typically her starting point — sometimes in pencil, but often in pen — and remains a core part of her creative process.

Sandra’s inspiration comes from the world around her: local landscapes, flowers, and wild places. Through her work, she seeks to communicate a deep love for the natural world and its quiet beauty.

Each painting is developed from Sandra’s own sketches and photographs, portraying the richness of nature and the charm of familiar scenes. She uses only the highest quality materials to ensure the longevity of her work, including watercolours, wax crayons, pens, and pencils on acid-free stretched watercolour paper, as well as professional acrylic paints on primed canvas.

Returning to the Quarry provides Sandra with a renewed sense of focus and inspiration. Sketching, drawing, and painting bring her immense pleasure — a joy she hopes is conveyed through every piece she creates.
