Style of Art: Printmaker
Ali Clayton has been involved with Art and Design for most of her life — as a student, a lecturer, and a practitioner. Trained as a designer in printed textiles, she embraces all aspects of printmaking but specialises in screen printing.
No two pieces of Ali’s work are ever identical, as she enjoys exploring variations on a theme. Each piece evolves gradually, with compositions developing through experimentation, and the final outcome often differing greatly from the original idea.
Her creative inspiration stems from a wide range of interests — including history, philosophy, literature, and both the natural and built environment. Often, it is a word or phrase that sparks the initial idea, setting in motion a process that leads to visual interpretation.
Ali’s work has been regularly selected for the Royal West of England Academy Open Exhibitions, a testament to her creativity and craftsmanship.
She is eager to return to her upgraded studio at the Old Town Quarry, to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones within the vibrant creative community.
